About

Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati

Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati was an Italian youth at the turn of the 20th century who demonstrated great virtue in his short 24 years of life.  He was beatified by St. Pope John Paul II in 1990, who named him the patron saint for youth and young adults in the new millennium.  In spite of a less-then-perfect home life, this student, jokester, friend, servant of the poor, and mountain climber, became an extraordinary example of lay holiness for us all.

The Frassati Society of Detroit

This chapter of the Society began as a Young Adult group in 2003, as a spin off of a similar group in Denver (where one could really share in Pier Giorgio’s love for the mountains).  Many of the original group of Young Adults have moved on to both religious and devoted married vocations. One of the remaining fruits was the translation, and further revision of a play on the life of Pier Giorgio Frassati, by a local team of Shady Characters (a translation of one of the names Pier Giorgio would use to describe his community of friends).  The mission of the group still remains:

Mission Statement: The Frassati Society of Detroit exists in order to reach out to young adults, foster moments of conversion, and lead them home to Christ and His Church through the witness of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati
